About Us

I am Mark Carlson, the original founder and owner of Avalon Lighting Design.  I began my career progression in 1985 by working for various Landscape Architects in Southern California.  I was attending college, as I performed drafting & design functions and built these skills.  In 1987, I received my degree in Botany and then ventured into the field with various installation works.  These direct experiences allowed me the ability to gain my contractor’s license in 1992.

Over the next 6-years, my experiences continued to grow, as I further developed outside of the Green Industry:  1) U.S. Army—discipline, work ethic, and an understanding of never giving up, 2) Hunter Douglas Window Fashions—production management, inventory, vendor account management, 3) Kiewit Pacific—large scale construction & engineering operations, and lastly 4) Wendy’s International—business management, P & L’s and budget control.

In 1998, I decided it was time to make my move and start up my own company.  I began to develop relationships and ultimately opened the area’s first, 100% low-voltage, outdoor lighting company.  To see how the business grew, please review the Company History.
